Sundance is one of six horses seized by Skagit County Animal Control in March 2010. All of the horses were severely underweight with rain rot, bad feet and teeth. Unfortunately, Sundance has not recovered as quickly as her herd mates. Visible scars on her withers from an ill-fitting saddle as well as a horrific indention in her belly surrounded by scar tissue from a narrow girth tell us that she suffered greatly from abusive behavior. She just had her first bodywork session which relieved some of the misalignment in her neck, back and pelvis, but she is so compromised it will take many sessions to put everything back into place. Between bodywork treatments our staff will continue to do therapeutic stretches and exercises to promote healing. Sundance has an amazingly positive and loving attitude considering all that she has been through and we look forward to the day when this loving mare finds her forever home.

March 2011 Update:

Sundance has continued to show great progress throughout her time with People Helping Horses, and she continues to astound us with her agreeable and trusting attitude, in-spite of all that she has been through!  Sundance had the opportunity to move into the training program this winter, work began as usual with refreshing ground work (lungeing, ground driving, natural horsemanship techniques), but we were all waiting to see how she would react to carrying a saddle again based on the nature of the injuries she has sustained in the past.  It turns out no worry was necessary, she willingly and quietly accepted the saddle, and shortly after accepted a rider - we are excited to see what the future has in store for Sundance!

June 2011 Update:

Sundance has had the fortunate opportunity to move to a foster home in Granite Falls.  She will be a companion for another older mare; and we know she is in excellent hands.  Thanks to the McCarty Family for providing this wonderful opportunity!
