Clifford is one of eight horses that were abandoned and left to run wild in Skagit county. Initially thought to be a two-year old based on his size, evaluation of his teeth revealed that he is actually coming four! Spooky upon intake, PHH trainers worked with Clifford on his ground manners and then he was put out on pasture to fill out. With the ever present problem of having more horses in need of training than we have room or funding to train, Clifford has not started training yet. This is not necessarily a bad thing because he just keeps on growing! We have been concentrating on confidence building with him and boy does this one love to play! Once something is not scary anymore he wants to put it in his mouth or push it with his nose.
June 2011 Update:
After spending the past year in a foster home, Clifford is back at the barn! His time in foster care allowed him the chance to recover and grow physically as well as mentally and he has undergone quite the transformation. He will be spending the summer on pasture not far from the barn with a group of additional PHH horses; and he is ready to move up into the training program as soon as a spot becomes available.
