Dexter

Success Story

Dexter is a registered yearling Arabian gelding. He came to PHH Fall 2007 after he was impaled on a T-Post; his owner did not want to invest in the medical expense to fix his wounds and opted to put him down. Thankfully, our vet, Dr. Jay Lamb, was on-site at the farm and suggested donating Dexter to PHH. Dexter’s wounds have healed with minimal scarring; there is no indication that there has been any lasting damage and he is sound. Dexter is ready for a loving forever home.

Update September 2009: Dexter has spend the last 2 years with People Helping Horses growing up but he is finally ready to start training! We spend a lot of time with the horses on the ground to build their confidence and trust before getting on so check back for updates.

Update October 2009: After a small set back our trainer, Meghan Valenti, has gotten on Dexter! The first ride was pleasantly uneventful and we hope for many, many more.
March 2010: We had to put Dexter’s training on hold for a few months, no fault of his, and he has been back for a few weeks now. He picked right up where they had left off. After just a few rides he was doing walk/trot/canter in the round pen and has now graduated to the arena!
April 7, 2010: Not only is Dexter being ridden in the arena he had his first ride by someone other than the trainer just a few short days ago. Dexter has been a dream to work with and will be ready for a new home very soon!
July 10, 2010: Dexter has found a home! The family owns another rescue Arab and plan to continue Dexter’s training with their Arab trainer. Congratulations Michelle & Richard!
