Lily

Success Story

One of three horses seized in December 1997, Lily was underweight, wormy, and in need of vital vaccinations and a teeth float. Terri Cook of TLC Training has been working with Lily for nearly six months. Here’s what Terry had to say about Lily: “We offered to take Lily on for one of our project horses. She was difficult to lead, anxious in the stall, and would not be caught. Aged by the vet around 12, it was the perfect opportunity to see what our retraining work would do for her! Being that Lily was a small, thin, rough coated worried mare, the work started slowly. Within a week, Lily could be walked in and out of her stall/ paddock, and she would let us catch her. She began to gain weight and trust in her handlers. Within a month, she was walking for other trained handlers, standing politely for her grooming with volunteers, and working her “come to school” work faster than most that come into training with us. With careful and consistent work and some natural medicine support, the bony frame is covered with healthy skin and hair and she is filling in nicely and safely. Lily has become quiet and loving for her daily grooming. She’s still a bit anxious, but she is working for a growing array of handlers each week. We have started her saddle/bridle work with wonderful success. Our trained staff handles her saddling and she is accepting of anyone with a kind demeanor. Lily has a long, ground covering walk, and I believe she would be a wonderful trail mount as the first impression after only 30 days of riding. I hope she will be a quiet, responsive mount for an intermediate small woman or youth rider in the future.”
