Maggie & Angus

Success Story

Update – September 8, 2008 From the owners: Just thought you might want an update on Maggie and Angus. I had the vet out to float their teeth last week and they were so well behaved! You would never know that these are the same burros that arrived 8 months ago. They have settled in quite well and are loving their routine. They are VERY friendly now and enjoy being handled. They actually come up to us in the field and Maggie always wants a pet. What a change. Dan didn’t show for our last trimming appointment and I wasn’t able to get a hold of him. I hope he didn’t get hurt or something. I know he was doing us a favor by coming out our way for the burros and it really didn’t work for him to come out any more. I will always be thankful to him for getting them on the right path for trimming. They both stand quietly now and are really quite good. Please tell him how much I appreciate the work that he did for us. I did find someone who lives close that recently graduated from ferrier school to trim them. She did a really nice job and they both seem to really like her. She is an apprentice to my horse shoer as well so we are able to get everyone done on the same day. I noticed what looked like cataracts in Angus’ eyes and had those checked. He does have them but can obviously see through them and we will keep an eye on them. I located Angus’ BLM freeze brand when he shed out and was able to look it up and found that he was born in 1984 and his brand says that he was rounded up in California. Though I understand that sometimes they ended up with a California number when they were rounded up in Nevada. In any case, our BLM burro is sweet, funny and has really developed into quite the little character. We love them both tremendously. I cannot believe that we have spent so much of our lives without burros. Once you have them, you are hooked for life. We are also fortunate to be surrounded by neighbors who love to hear them bray! We have one neighbor that is sad that she has only herd them bray twice. Now, how often do you hear that? Everyone on the street loves them and comes over to see them.
