Sugar was part of a seizure from Skagit County in January 2009. She had a dominance issue when she came in which is why she looks so healthy. There were 7 horses in the seizure and PHH received the 4 healthiest horses.
Update 11/22/09: From Sugar’s foster mom:
Hi, I’m very happy to let you both know that with love, patience, consistent training and much help from my husband, Sugar has turned a major corner in her ability to trust. In the last 2 days, just as I began to think she would never improve, she decided my husband and I are people she can trust to help her through her anger issues. As I said earlier, she is the smartest horse I have ever trained but also the angriest horse I have ever trained. In the past 5 months my husband and I had worked endlessly to help her overcome her anger and it had seemed to be of no avail until yesterday when a light went off in Sugar’s head and she suddenly understood for the first time that we were out to help her, not hurt her. She has gone from a fighter to a lover, a side I never expected to see from her. I’m sure we will continue to have good days and bad days, and her trust in humans will wax and wane, but at this point I am thrilled she is responding so positively to us. The many months spent earning her trust have been well worth it. She is turning into an incredible horse!!
Regards,
