Whitey

Success Story

Sweet and relaxed, Whitey is the one you’ll find with his head hanging over the stall door just so that he doesn’t miss a thing. 12/15/08 update: When Whitey came to us we were told that he was broke to ride but we always go back to square one with the rescue horses. He is not in full training right now but we have found the time to put a saddle on him and do some ground driving. We hope to get on him after the holidays. 2/19/09 update: We have finally had the space to get Whitey into training! He is being worked by Kimberly Lance and he is doing very well. Whitey is a bit stiff to the right so he will have a Bowen treatment this week to try to loosen him up. Many of the horses from this particular case have been stiff to the right but with the help of Bowen therapy and in a few cases some chiropractic they are all doing fine. Otherwise he seems to be well trained and just needs to build his endurance. Update October 2009: Whitey has been receiving physical therapy from Dr. Suzan Seelye for the past few months and we are finally making some headway! When horses are stressed about riding they tend to do one of two things; unload their rider or shut down. Whitey had shut down. He came from a very stressfully seizure and was more compromised in his body than he initially let on. Now that he is on the right track we are going to start doing so ground work and hopefully put him back under saddle next month. 12/1/09: Whitey is back in full training! We had been doing some ground work with him when we had a spare moment in addition to his physical therapy and he is coming along very nicely now! He still needs a bit more ground work to build his confidence but the plan is to start riding him again by the end of the month. 4/11/20: Whitey has a new home! A wonderful couple and their son just added Whitey to their horse family this weekend. He will get to live on pasture with other horses and go for family trail rides; any horses dream home!
